The United Way Regional Volunteer Center and the Valparaiso University Softball Team would like to say a special thank you to the individuals and groups that hosted drives throughout the year for the I Need a Hug program. The last week in September was extremely busy and rewarding as we delivered 3,129 new stuffed animals to teachers implementing Reading Buddiesin 114 classes throughout NWI and to guidance counselors using them as counseling tools for students going through a rough time or in crisis.

Become a United Way partner -companies, churches, civic groups or families can LIVE UNITED by hosting a drive. Check out the video above, click on the I Need a Hug on our website to see the impact this program has on our children as Reading Buddies helps increase their reading scores and read the testimonies from the guidance counselors who use the stuffed animals as counseling tools.

The Valparaiso YMCA recently conducted an I Need A Hug drive. The United Way Regional Volunteer Center and the elementary schools we serve are very grateful for the many bags of stuffed animals that were collected. In September, over 3,100 stuffed animals were delivered to elementary schools in Lake, Porter, and LapPorte counties and now we need YOUR help to replenshing our supply. PLEASE follow the lead of the Valparaiso YMCA and host a drive for small, new stuffed animals to help support literacy in NWI's youth.
